Music + Arts Program
Crescent Arts Centre Music + Art Program
A workshop experience that addresses the life experiences of aging through the mediums of visual arts, spoken word and music.
No art experience? Express yourself with collage. Experienced and want to experiment? Perfect for you! No music experience? No problem. Soundscapes are built with sounds – you will have fun with my synthesizers!
This program made possible by the generous financial assistance from the New Horizon's Seniors Program (ESDC, Govt of Canada) and the fundamental support in-kind for space of Crescent Fort Rouge United Church.
Here is an example of one called "Yukon Moon"
Painting by Mary Beattie.
Sound Design by Grant Simpson
From Grant:
For this project I used my favorite painting which hangs on my studio wall. It's by my friend Mary Beattie who is an amazingly unique artist who spent thirty years sharpening her skills in an off-the-grid cabin in the remote Yukon wilderness. In 2009 I released an album with a song I wrote called "Beneath the Yukon Moon" and Mary liked it enough to create this beautiful painting of a scene from the song.
I took the painting and created a sound design of the theme. In the song there is a line "Singing in the night's a lonely Loon." So I took the Loon Call and used that three note motif to build the sound design around.
