The Crescent Arts Centre supports emerging and established artists and creates innovation in performance, partnerships and projects.
Historically, the Crescent Arts Centre grew out of the efforts of Crescent Fort Rouge United Church in Winnipeg. CAC, a not-for-profit, remains in relationship with Crescent Fort Rouge and lodges within its walls. CAC's Board of Directors are notable professional artists and performers dedicated to CAC's mission to support community arts.
The Crescent Arts Centre at 525 Wardlaw has been blessed with New Horizons funding to deliver programs satisfying the requests of the senior’s community for engaging events and activities. More than that! Seniors want inter-generational activities. To quote one regular attender, “Why would I want to hang around with just seniors?” Point taken!
Six times a year we offer two hours of swing dancing, led by Emily Sinclair of River City Swing. So if you have always wanted to try it, Emily will show you how. You don’t even need to bring along a partner! Backing all this up is a live jazz band led by Grant Simpson and fabulous local musicians. More practiced (and younger) swing dancers arrive just for the opportunity to swing away the afternoon to live music. Grant sometimes adds the voices of the Café Rouge singers to the last part of the afternoon.
If you just want to come and watch and enjoy the music, many people do that. And there are refreshments! $10.00

A sample of our community work - The Stories to Songs Project
We have been funded to create professional paid opportunities for musician-songwriters to write a song, each song as inspired from the storytelling of individual seniors ideally in care facilities. (one song for each senior) Together their work is celebrated in a final performance. Of course pandemic restrictions altered the project's in-person element but did produce a series of YouTube performances and stories. You can hear and see a sample of this project. Thanks to Jaxon Haldane, Howard Swan and Ajax for kicking this project off!

CAC gratefully acknowledges its funders and supporters to community programming.
We acknowledge and respect that we are on the traditional territory of the Anishinaabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, and Dakota nations, and the homeland of the Metis people. Long before adventurers, colonizers, settlers, refugees, or immigrants from other lands came to this territory, the people of Canada’s first nations held this land as a sacred trust from the Creator. We acknowledge this stewardship of the land, and our treaty commitment to ensure that we work together to provide a sacred place of welcome for all.
