What is it? A multi-generational vaudeville show that includes songs, skits, dances, jokes and magical illusions – created entirely by the participants, under the direction of vaudeville veteran producer, writer and director Grant Simpson.
What is vaudeville? A bunch of skits, songs, dances, jokes and “stuff”. Think of it as “live tic tok or youtube”. The Muppets Show is a vaudeville format.
When is it? Our first meeting is Monday, October 7th at 7pm. We meet every Monday (excluding holidays etc) until the show which is scheduled for March 14, 2025. That’s approximately 18 Mondays.
Do I need Skills? You have them. The beautiful thing about vaudeville is all skills at every level are put to good work. And you will learn a lot on the way as well.
What do we do? We meet and start to put together the show piece by piece. You as a team will work with professional songwriters, scriptwriters, joke writers, production teams, choreographers, and actors – as you, the participants create all the wonderful fun, funny, touching vignettes that make up the show.
What is the Cost? The cost is $20 (total cost) per participant.
The theme of the show this year centers around “The Moonlight Special” and the halcyon days of Winnipeg Beach during its heyday.
We will base the show on historical facts as captured in Barbara Lange’s wonderful book: Memories of the Moonlight Special and the Grand Beach Train Era.
Barbara will come to one of our early meetings and give some readings from the book and have a Q and A with the participants. This will get our creativity going!
The professional coaches are Grant Simpson, Tim Osmond, and Jaxon Haldane.
We are grateful for funding from New Horizons for Seniors that makes this project possible.
